Rapid response required for waterways bridge strike

barriers being unloaded

About the project

A day before the holiday shut down, we received a call from A1 Traffic Safety Services to provide temporary safety barriers for a canal bridge near Retford.   The bridge posts had been hit by a motor vehicle and were damaged causing significant risk to road and waterways users.

The solution

We were able to offer a swift 24-hour response from the initial call of help to deployment of barriers to the bridge. Our reactive service meant that A1 Traffic Safety Services could secure the bridge from further damage and protect all bridge users, and ensure the bridge was passable for the high volumes of road users during the Christmas period.

The benefits

Concrete barriers were selected as they are free standing and do not require to be pinned down to the road surface, which could further damage and weaken the bridge deck.

The barriers installed provided a robust barricade and high containment levels to prevent vehicles from crashing over the side of the bridge. The integrated “JJ” hook keeps the barriers together securely and enables fast installation – imperative for this time critical job.

Working with APC

Steve Musker, owner of A1 Traffic Safety Services, was delighted by the rapid response of APC.  “The service provided was responsive, from the sales team who provided a quotation within the hour to the installation team who carried out the installation the next day. APC were easy to work with, provided competitive pricing and installed the barriers with minimum inconvenience to road users.”

Steve also added “it is very reassuring to work with APC, as we can be confident that we will receive high levels of service and fast reaction times which is critical to satisfying our customers, as we have a lot of call out work involving damaged bridges over water”
